Next Project
Celebrating the spirit of Nashville’s Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood, The Finery is an urban tapestry of uses, experiences, materials, and construction methodologies. Envisioned as a social, artistic, and economic hub knit into the neighborhood’s historic fabric, the project establishes a new nexus for creatives. The collection of buildings and outdoor spaces, including T3 Wedgewood-Houston and the residences at The Finery, embraces the deep heritage of artists, makers, and entrepreneurs that comprise the community.
Public plazas and connected courtyards are lined with retail storefronts that weave between the buildings, spilling out to the surrounding streets and alleyways through paseos and under overhead bridges providing an active and seamless connection with the surrounding community. The Finery raises the bar for apartment living in Nashville, responding to the surrounding context of the dynamic and transforming neighborhood. The six-story, 416,000-square-foot development includes 383 units that rest on ground floor retail and amenity space and lines a 640-space parking garage with a resident’s pool deck on top.
The design for The Finery was inspired by the neighborhood’s creative residents, primarily artists, makers, musicians, and entrepreneurs. To reduce the scale of the project and in response to the surrounding context, the massing is broken down into three forms connected via pedestrian bridges on the floors above the ground level. The north building responds to the descending topography along Gray Street; the grounded, rusticated, and rationally ordered west building; and the brightly colored, playfully composed east building, which is elevated above a glass-walled mixed-use base.
The design for the north building consists of angled standing seam metal and a diagonal balcony pattern reflecting the motion of the site. Most notable on the north building is a large-scale mural, further reinforcing the connection to art and the community. The west building provides a more traditional approach with a refined, dark masonry façade and rationally arranged balcony stacks. Finally, the east building’s colorful corrugated metal skin features randomly placed balconies that appear to peel away from the corrugated box and playful graphics showcasing the building’s details and construction information.
