We are thrilled to announce that Asurion Gulch Hub has been awarded the Building Green 2023 Governor’s Environmental Stewardship Award! The GESA awards are hosted by Governor Bill Lee and the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC). The program recognizes exceptional voluntary actions that improve or protect the environment and natural resources with projects or initiatives not required by law or regulation.
In it’s 37th year, the Building Green category recognizes innovation in siting, structure design and use, construction techniques, supply chain materials sourcing, operation efficiency, longevity, flexibility of use, occupant health, and reduction in overall carbon footprint as applied to the built environment.
Asurion Gulch Hub is a new LEED-Gold certified headquarters for global technology company Asurion. Developed by Highwoods Properties, the building is designed to foster productivity, collaboration, and innovation to attract and retain talent while enhancing and engaging the neighborhood and broader community.

At the beginning of the design process, key stakeholders and leaders gathered with the design team to prioritize sustainability goals that promoted employee wellbeing and engagement. Connecting bridges, communicating stairs, and shared amenity coffee bars and dining are placed to encourage movement throughout the building and increase opportunities for casual interactions between employees. Biophilic design strategies improve the wellness of users in and outside the building. The integration of plant life, natural and tactile materials, monumental stairs, and pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly access through and around the site create ample opportunities for exercise and social engagement support a healthy and productive environment. Over 80,000-square-feet of outdoor green space and sweeping views of the surrounding landscape offer users’ connection to natural light and fresh air.

Additionally, Highwoods fostered a redesign of the Gulch Greenway, opening 1,400 feet of new linear park to the public. The ¼ mile segment of the broader Gulch Greenway integrated with Asurion Gulch Hub exemplifies a successful public-private partnership between Metro Nashville and Highwoods Properties who funded and constructed the realignment and extension of the greenway trail.
