110 East

Charlotte has a rich, pioneering history beginning with the first gold rush in 1825. This led to the early adoption of an industrial rail corridor for textile mills which were located specifically in the South End neighborhood. The design of 110 East draws inspiration from South End’s history and its roots in textile manufacturing. This is evident on the exterior treatment of the building with expressed verticals “weaving” within the building’s façade while expressing horizontal movement relating to the light rail below.

The “weaving” concept continues from the façade to the ground-level public plaza. The East / West LYNX station and platform are integrated into the design, which extends from the building to seamlessly knit together both private office use and public engagement through retail offerings and transit access. 110 East sets a precedent as the first office building along the Blue Line Rail Trail to directly engage with its adjacent transit station and foster a truly active, transit-oriented environment.

The ground floor is designed to encourage gathering, socialization, and interaction. The building is set back and carved away at its northwest corner , creating a public plaza with inviting overhangs. The south edge of the building pulls back from the ground plane to expose a curved backdrop for a two-story mural by local artist Lauren Stern with Studio 618, further connecting the building to the surrounding community.

Within the building, flexibility and adaptability were key drivers in the building’s design. Large open floorplates support a variety of space types, configurations, and workplace designs. Building amenities, such as the sky lobby and 11th floor fitness facility provide additional spaces for meeting and casual interaction. 110 East is WiredScore Platinum certified, ensuring that the building’s infrastructure is technology-forward and prepared for the next generation of business tenants.
