Historically, Nashville’s Division Street was just that—a dividing line between the industrial rail lines that defined The Gulch, and the residential neighborhood of Midtown/Music Row. This division was amplified with the arrival of the I65 Interstate in the late 1950s, which further bifurcated the existing urban fabric. Sited at the bend of Division Street, the design for 909 Division seeks to redefine and pay homage to these historic neighborhood dynamics. The massing and material aspects of the design are meant to express how communities break, adapt, and restitch to form new identities and point toward future growth.
Steadfast and resolute amongst Nashville’s growing skyline, 909 Division is a sixteen-story, 481-unit mixed-use tower. The 565,000-square foot, multi-family development is located at the southwestern bend of Division Street. At street level, an undulating façade promotes an activated pedestrian experience by way of generous sidewalks, retail, and en plein air dining. This experience is also enhanced by varying levels of greenspace through the integration of raised planters and landscaping.
The building design features a highly texturized facade comprised of brick, wood, and glass. Simple concepts related to light and shadow become expressive elements in the exterior, and a refined palette of brick tones, warm soffits, and black metal accents weave together within a seamless grid of glass and inset balconies.
A blend of studio, one, and two-bedroom units feature spaces with ample ceiling height, contemporary layouts, and exterior access. The sixteen-story tower offers residents extensive amenities including co-working lounges, indoor and outdoor fitness, and a rooftop pool located on the 16th floor. In addition, five levels of wrapped parking facilitate residents and retail visitors within the mixed-use development.
