Next Profile

Alex Stinchcomb
Associate , AIA

Growing up as one of ten children just north of Nashville, Tennessee, Alex always dreamt of having the opportunity to explore and travel. At the age of 18, without ever having seen the ocean, but fueled by this dream, he joined the US Navy.

During his five years aboard the Submarine USS City of Corpus Christi in the South Pacific, he stepped into various engineering roles which allowed him to hone his detail and critical thinking skills. This, combined with his natural artistic abilities and love for manual labor, led him to pursue a path in architecture. He graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee with his Bachelor of Architecture in 2014.

After college, Alex spent three years working in New York City for Deborah Berke Partners where he gained invaluable experience through a variety of projects, including the adaptive reuse of a warehouse into a performing arts school and high-end residences scattered over the North East.

Inspired by the work developing in his home city, Alex joined Hastings in 2017 and was soon officially licensed in January 2018. Since joining the firm, he has helped design and manage several projects, including Hillwood High School, Vanderbilt Residential Colleges, Nashville Soccer Stadium, and three private residences. With the ability to visualize and illustrate the overarching design story and hone in on and solve complex structural details, Alex possesses the expertise to create thoughtful and thought-provoking designs.

Outside of Hastings, Alex enjoys working on projects in the house he and his wife designed and built. You will often find them hiking, camping, or enjoying a beer on a patio with their adventurous little boy. Other enjoyments and skills include painting, playing with power tools, random movie trivia, and dominating at game night. And even though he can neither confirm nor deny details related to Navy life, he will try to draw you a diagram to explain.
